Starting this Saturday, downtown Springfield will host a weekly farmers market, bringing fresh, locally-grown produce and handmade goods to city residents. The market will operate every Saturday from May through October.
The market will feature over 30 vendors selling a variety of products including fresh vegetables, fruits, baked goods, honey, cheese, and flowers. Many vendors are small family farms from the surrounding countryside who use sustainable and organic farming methods.
"We're thrilled to bring this market to our downtown area," said City Council member David Park. "It will provide residents with access to healthy, fresh food while supporting local farmers and strengthening our community connections."
The market will be located in Central Plaza, near the fountain, and will be open from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Free parking will be available in the nearby municipal parking garage. The market will also feature live music performances and a children's activity area each week.
Organizers encourage shoppers to bring their own reusable bags to reduce waste. The market will accept cash, credit cards, and SNAP benefits to ensure accessibility for all residents. For more information, visit www.springfieldfarmersmarket.org.
