A new community garden opened last Saturday in downtown Riverside, giving local residents a place to grow fresh vegetables and flowers. The garden, located on Main Street next to the public library, features 30 individual plots available for rent.
"We're excited to offer this green space to our community," said Mayor Jennifer Collins at the opening ceremony. "Urban gardening not only provides fresh produce but also brings neighbors together and improves the local environment."
Each garden plot measures 10 feet by 10 feet and can be rented for $25 per season. The rental fee includes access to water, gardening tools, and composting facilities. Gardeners can grow vegetables, herbs, and flowers, but must follow organic gardening practices.
The garden also includes a children's area where local schools can teach students about plants and healthy eating. "This is a wonderful educational opportunity for our kids," commented Principal Robert Martinez from Riverside Elementary School.
Interested residents can sign up for a plot at the Parks and Recreation office or online at www.riversideparks.gov. The garden will be open daily from sunrise to sunset.
